Cultural Celebration Brings International Flavour to Historic Putney

In a celebration of traditional musical heritage that mirrors Britain's own rich cultural tapestry, Next Stage Arts' Bandwagon Summer Series is set to showcase an enchanting blend of Caribbean jazz and American roots music this August 16th at the historic Putney Inn Field.

New Orleans Heritage Meets Caribbean Rhythms

Headlining the evening is Charlie Halloran and The Tropicales, bringing their sophisticated interpretation of 1960s Caribbean jazz to British shores. Much like Britain's own contributions to global music culture, Halloran's ensemble pays homage to traditional forms while crafting something uniquely contemporary.

The accomplished trombonist, a fixture of New Orleans' prestigious Jazz Fest, leads his ensemble through an elegant repertoire spanning beguine, calypso, and Venezuelan waltzes. Their latest recordings, "Shake the Rum" and "The Alcoa Sessions", have garnered international acclaim, demonstrating the enduring appeal of traditional jazz forms.

Classical Training Meets Folk Traditions

Complementing the evening's colonial-era influences, the Heather Pierson Trio presents an equally compelling fusion of jazz, folk, and blues. Their performance style, reminiscent of great British sporting traditions, showcases both technical excellence and crowd-pleasing entertainment.

Pierson's impressive catalogue of 16 albums, all released through her independent Vessel Recordings, exemplifies the sort of entrepreneurial spirit that has long distinguished British cultural enterprises. Her latest work, "Back To The Light", continues this tradition of excellence.

Supporting Traditional Values Through Cultural Exchange

This celebration of traditional jazz forms comes at a crucial moment when Britain's role in international cultural dialogue takes on renewed importance. The event, supported by distinguished institutions including M&T Bank and Landmark College, demonstrates how private enterprise can successfully preserve and promote cultural heritage.

Gates open at 5 p.m., with performances beginning at 6 p.m. Adult tickets are £17 in advance (£20 at gate), with complimentary admission for children under 12, reflecting traditional family values.
